History

Picture1898- A. S. Martin & Sons was founded in 1898 by Austin Smith Martin for the purpose of repairing buggies and wagons that traveled the roadways in West Tennessee, North Mississippi, and East Arkansas. The current location at 411 Monroe Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee, is in the same area as the location founded in 1898. The family picture above shows Austin Smith Martin with two of his sons along with a buggy that was used during the era.

Picture1898 - 1953 Austin Smith Martin and sons continued to repair vehicles as they changed from horse driven to motor driven until his death on the job in 1953. Austin Smith Martin's son, Edwin L. Martin, and Edwin L. Martin's wife, Charlien (Chickie), continued the business after the passing of Austin Smith Martin.

Picture1953 - 1983 Edwin L. Martin (Ed) along with his son, Edwin L. Martin, Jr. (Edwin), expanded the business from auto body repair to customized auto upholstery, convertible tops, vinyl tops, auto glass replacement, and antique restoration until his retirement in 1983. At the time of his retirement Edwin L. Martin (Ed) transferred the business to his son, Edwin L. Martin, Jr. (Edwin). Edwin L. Martin (Ed) passed in 1999.

Picture1983 - 2003 Edwin L. Martin, Jr. (Edwin) continued to expand the business into a modern collision repair facility. Edwin L. Martin Jr. (Edwin) along with his son, Christopher Lee Martin (Chris) installed state-of-the-art, high-technology frame and painting equipment to continue providing customers with repairs to their vehicles as close to pre-accident condition as possible. Christopher Lee Martin (Chris) continues the business since the passing of Edwin L. Martin Jr. (Edwin) in 2003.

Picture2003 - Since 2003, Christopher Lee Martin (Chris) has further expanded services to customers by providing sales, service, and installation of custom auto accessories including audio, mobile theatre, security, navigation, and custom auto body designs.
